“The synthesis and fullness of friendship with God are reached when we follow or imitate Christ, when our will is in union with His. This is the essence of the love of friendship. Prayer occupies a privileged place in this path of imitation. On one hand, prayer is the spiritual nourishment bringing vitality and perseverance to our imitation. On the other hand, prayer itself is an outstanding way to imitate Christ. In praying we imitate the most essential aspect of His personality; his intimate union with the Father. Our prayer becomes incorporated into Christ’s prayer and it makes us share in  his own intimacy and friendship with the Father. This is why prayer is the path to friendship.”
